Tile is one product that looks just as good on the kitchen floor as it does on the hallway, living room, or any other floor, and it's also waterproof, durable, and easy to clean. When you walk into flooring stores, you'll see an overwhelming number of designs, shapes, and sizes, all of which can be combined to create a unique design. Because you'll be mixing and matching them, you'll not only be creating a unique design but also various price points, which makes tile very affordable. If you have questions or need some creative inspiration, feel free to come into Tile Liquidators LLC, your trusted flooring company.
What are the tile classifications?
On the label, you will see C1, C2, or C3. C1 is only to be used on walls. Wall tiles are thinner and not meant to withstand the weight of foot traffic; they're also a little more slippery. For floor tiles, you'll want C2 or C3 classifications for moderate to gravy foot traffic, respectively. If the tile is glazed, there will also be a PEI rating, a system created by the Porcelain and Enamel Institute. The PEI rating must be three (3) to five (5) to qualify as a floor tile.
Some tile has more “grip” than others
Ceramic tile can be wet when slippery. Your box will be labeled "Coefficient of Friction" or "COF." That number should be at least .50 for residential use and .60 for commercial.
Is it indoor or outdoor tile?
Some tiles can be used both inside and outdoors. The best is impervious; not only is it waterproof, but it will stand up to any weather, including freeze-thaw cycles. Vitreous tiles can also be used outside and, even though they are labeled "frost resistant," they can crack with freeze-thaw cycles.
